Having some issues

We have watched the social media videos of people playing the game and we believe that our strings are to short to play the game properly. It takes forceful effort to push the ring over the top of the hook, meaning that there is no way it would be able to hook on its own with just a toss. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this issue as we really love the concept of the game and would love to be able to play.
